WA Astronomical History

My PhD was on the scientific history of the Perth Observatory between 1958 and 2014 after which it closed for scientific research by public servants and there remained no professional astronomers. The Government department that ran and still owns the State Observatory grated me the honorary title of Historian and for 10 years I worked on the preservation and history of the State’s priceless assets. My predecessor, Dr Muriel Utting, wrote the history of the Observatory from its inception in 1896 until 1962, slightly overlapping my work.

These write monologues of a professional astronomer who fell in love with the research and findings about the Perth Observatory’s history and artefacts that need to be preserved for future generations; after of course working there in the 1980s and 1990s and returning a volunteer for 10 years before stepping back to start this phase of compiling a compendium, stay tuned.
